Shipping cranes are being put to test. This was led to all the cranes falling during the crucial earthquakes. For example, during the earthquake of 1995 in Kobe, Japan the a countless amount of cranes in the Kobe Port fell causing a great loss for Japan. For this reason I believe that it is important for cranes to be put to test. What if there is a great gathering near these cranes and all of a sudden there is an earthquake. This is rare, but there is a chance. As a result, the United States recently is in the process of creating a new field called NEES, or in other words Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation. The people in this field basically have to test and create cranes that could withstand any earthquake. This will ultimately help our country during an earthquakes. Though it may not be evident or clearly shown cranes most likely cost a lot of money. Cranes falling down will definitely not help us especially during this time when the economy is at its worst point since decades. Thus, I believe that cranes withstanding earthquakes will help us in the long run.
